Summary:
To date, there have been no studies on the outcome of osseointegration of alveolar bone around dental implants inserted with piezoelectric osteotomy versus conventional osteotomy. The aim of this study was to compare the radiographic differences, through evaluation of peri-implant bone density, between implant insertion using traditional surgical technique and piezoelectric technique. Forty patients were selected whose treatment consisted of a minimum of two implants placed in nonpathologic native bone. A single type of implant surface (SLA) was chosen. The implants were placed following the manufacturer protocol for traditional surgical technique and piezoelectric technique. Radiographs were taken following surgery and 30, 60, and 90 days after surgery. The bone density was studied with the densitometry application. All patients completed the study period with success. Despite a limited number of treated patients, the results of this pilot study demonstrated that piezoelectric implant site preparation promotes better bone density and osteogenesis, and the piezoelectric technique is predictable, with a 100% success rate in this study.

CT Scan Technology
Implant dentistry, one of the most predictable treatment alternatives offered to patients who are missing teeth can be enhanced by thorough pre-surgical diagnosis and treatment planning efforts by all members of the implant team. Conventional radiologic techniques including periapical and panoramic radiographs are limited by the two dimensional interpretation of existing hard and soft tissue. The inherent distortion factor can misrepresent bone topography in critical areas associated with vital anatomy or potential implant sites. Advances in diagnostic radiological techniques improved with the introduction of CT scan technology for dental applications. The enhanced diagnostic range of this evolving technology empowers the clinician with necessary tools to avoid potential complications associated with implant dentistry.

Immediate Molar Replacement Utilizing Narrow Diameter Implants - Allowing Implant Placement in Almost Any Situation - Part 2 of 2
Immediate molar placement has been widely reported in the literature with excellent results. All the studies insist that a wide diameter implants are essential as they are the only way to achieve primary stability and are the only implants that can handle the forces that molar regions produce. But there are a number of problems with wide diameter implants. This presentation will dispel all these myths as well as show how narrow diameter implants can not only handle the forces but also make immediate molar placement more predictable and possible in almost all scenarios.

Tissue Engineering and Platelet Derived Growth Factors: Evidence Based Therapy
Platelet derived growth factors are now routinely utilized in reconstructive therapy. This presentation describes very detailed and evidence based guidelines for clinicians interested in enhancing their abilities in tissue engineering, especially as it relates to bone augmentation. Specifically, while successful bone augmentation requires the standard surgical parameters of space maintenance, low pressure on the grafts and tension-free flap closure, optimization of this goal requires management and enhancement of the local biological conditions with growth factors. Towards that end, platelet concentrates through the constant release of growth factors are able to promote and enhance new vascularization, provide plasma protein, normal lipidemia, as well as increased collagen and fibrin activity.
