Summary:

The use of recombinant human plateletderived growth factor–BB (rhPDGF) has received Food and Drug Administration approval for the treatment of periodontal and orthopedic bone defects and dermal wound healing. Many studies have investigated its regenerative potential in a variety of other oral clinical indications. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the efficacy, safety, and clinical benefit of recombinant human plateletderived growth factor (rhPDGF) use for alveolar bone and/or soft tissue regeneration. Based on the clinical evidence, rhPDGF is safe and provides clinical benefits when used in combination with bone allografts, xenograft, or β-TCP for the treatment of intrabony and furcation periodontal defects and gingival recession or when used with allografts or xenograft for GBR and ARP.

Oral Soft Tissue Laser Ablative and Coagulative Efficiencies Spectra
The key to the success of soft tissue lasers is their ability to cut and coagulate the soft tissue at the same time. Present work is aimed to derive the wavelength-dependent differences in photo-thermal ablation and coagulation efficiencies for oral soft tissue pulsed dental Near-IR Diode, Mid-IR Erbium and IR CO2 lasers. Even though the soft tissue photothermal ablation has been extensively studied, there remains a discrepancy between (a) the widely proliferated notion about efficient Near-IR 800-1,100 nm laser ablation of the oral soft tissue, and (b) studies reporting the inefficient soft tissue Near-IR absorption/ablation. Indeed, the notions about “the key to the usefulness of the Nd:YAG is that this wavelength is highly absorbed in oral soft tissue”, and “all currently available dental laser instruments and their emission wavelengths have indications for use for incising, excising... oral soft tissue surgery”, contradict an observation illustrated here...

Enhancing Esthetics with a Fixed Prosthesis Utilizing an Innovative Pontic Design and Periodontal Plastic Surgery

Enhancing Esthetics with a Fixed Prosthesis Utilizing an Innovative Pontic Design and Periodontal Plastic Surgery
During the past two decades, significant advancements with the integration of periodontal plastic surgery into esthetic restorative dental procedures have received increased attention. While ovate pontics have traditionally been used as a restorative design following augmentation procedures to enhance esthetics, an alternate E-pontic design aims to predictably support and maintain the gingival architecture between a single missing anterior tooth adjacent to a natural tooth or an implant that is in harmony with the lip line and face. In addition, the E-pontic design promotes the gingival facial tissue to coronally migrate over the pontic, creating a gingival sulcus. This article describes an innovative new technique and a pontic design that predictably will develop, support, and maintain the gingival architecture to provide a long-term esthetic and functional outcome.

Tissue Thickness, Cement & Platform Switching; The Science
Mucosal tissue thickness was shown to be the factor having impact on crestal bone stability. Even platform switching of the implant-abutment connection does not reduce crestal bone loss, if soft tissues at the implant placement are thin.

The Basics of Root Coverage Surgery with Acellular Dermal Grafts: A STEP-BY-STEP Live Patient Demonstration
oft tissue grafting is rapidly playing a larger role in restorative, esthetic, and reconstructive dentistry. While conventional grafting techniques have several limitations, newer grafting materials and techniques make it easier for patients to say "yes" to the treatment they truly need and desire. In this webinar, Dr. Wong will perform a step-by-step demonstration using Perioderm to correct multiple gingival recession defects. Soft tissue allografts are quickly becoming a "game changer" in dentistry, making optimum dentistry more than an ideal... it's a reality.

Combined Augmentation Therapies in the Esthetic Zone
The esthetic zone presents a far bigger challenge than any other area of the mouth. It is the one area that a patient has the ability to really scrutinize the work that has been done and anything that does not pass muster will quickly create problems in our practices. Uncompromising treatment planning is therefore essential to ensure the long term aesthetic stability of our esthetic cases. Treatment planning involves both bone and soft tissue therapy as both are critical for the stability. This lecture will highlife the importance of different treatment options as well as show numerous new techniques that are possible to achieve the results that both our patients and practitioners are proud of.

I will highlight the benefits achievable through the use of guided planning, guided laboratory procedures and guided surgeries, while maintaining the fundamental principles of osseointegration. My ten years of scientifically proven experience and clinical follow-up in guided surgery and CAD/CAM biomimetic restorations will be shared with the audience to support clinical protocols as well as practical tips and tricks with case studies demonstrating each clinical scenario. New surgical and prosthetic improvements and novel proof-of-concept techniques to enhance the natural soft tissue integration will be presented. Viewers will also broaden their knowledge of hard and soft tissue surgical management through the guided surgery, discovering the latest implant designs and prosthetic interfaces designed to achieve an ideal soft tissue seal and bone level over time.
