However, research showed many years ago that actually a 1 mm bevel of coverage could be sufficient to hold the restoration in place provided the occlusion is favorable. And if color is a problem, I might cover the entire labial surface because many times it is difficult to match multiple enamel stains. | | Register For Free To Reply |

| 6/13/2012 3:44:34 PM | Ronald Goldstein | | Veneer (porcelain or composite) | | Dr. Salama gives the best advice...I have several sports stars who broke the same type of tooth and in each case I suggested bonding until they discontinue sports. It is so much easier to repair or replace a bonded restoration of that size than try to repair porcelain...and much less expense for the patient. | | Register For Free To Reply |

However, there are too many sequela that are too unpredictable; tooth becomes non-vital, ankylosed etc and may require significantly more subsequent intervention.
From my perspective, at this time for a 16 yr old, I would do a direct composite veneer for a few years and re-evaluate in the future as to when to upgrade to a porcelain veneer. | | Register For Free To Reply |
| 6/7/2012 9:28:56 AM | Tamarra Jean-Chataigne | | Veneer (porcelain or composite) | | Patient is a 16 year-old male who broke his right upper incisor 6 years ago. The tooth fragment was bonded back into place ever since. Patient came back and he would like a stronger permanent restoration done because tooth fragment debonded.
Patient is an athlete. Occlusion in not too heavy on this tooth(patient previously had ortho treatment. No perio problem.
My question is: could I do a porcelain veneer directly or is the fracture too important to adequately support the porcelain at the incisal edge? Should I rebuild part of the missing tooth structure with composite before preparing the tooth?
