Bleaching of anterior teeth
A 24 years patient came with the chief complaint of poor esthetics due to darker shade of teeth.Clinically there were no extrinsic stains on her teeth.There was a composite filling with 21 at the incisal third.Patient was examined completely and vital teeth bleaching was given as a treatment option. PolaOffice bleaching agent was selected for the procedure.Initially full mouth scaling was done and teeth were treated with pumice slurry. Check retractor was placed.Teeth were isolated and petroleum jelly was applied over lips. Pola Office 1 Patient Kit • 2 X 0.3g Pola Office Powder Pots • 2 X 2mL Pola Office Syringes • 1 X 1g Gingival Barrier Syringe Composition: Wt. % Pola Office Liquid Hydrogen peroxide (35%) 35.0 Balance ingredient (non-hazardous) 65.0 Pola Office Powder Silicone dioxide powder 73.3 Catalysts (Proprietary) 26.2 Balance ingredient (non-hazardous) 0.5 Pre operative Shade was noted For maxillary arch-B2 For mandibular arch-A3 After proper isolation all the teeth and associateg gingiva was dried and gingival barrier was applied from free gingival margin upto 3 mm above the gingiva.Interproximal area was covered for good retention.Gingival barrier was light cured. Now bleaching agent was prepared by mixing whole one liquid syringe in one pot of powder.Thick layer of gel was applies to anterior segments of teeth.Gel was left for about 8 minutes.In between light curing was done for 30 sec for each tooth. Suction off all the gel and teeth were evaluated for shade. The above steps were repeated for two more time until desired shade was acheived. All the gel was suctioned off and teeth were thoroughly washed with water.Gingival barrier was removed with a tip of explorer. After completion of procedure shades were evaluated as follows- For maxillary arch-B1 For mandibular arch-A1 Patient was very satisfied with the new shade.Also the post operative sensitivity after one day was not significant. Post operative instruction that were given to patient: 1.Advise patient not to smoke, consume highly coloured, hot or cold foods or beverages for at least 2 days. 2. Treat any post-operative sensitivity with a desensitising gel or toothpaste. 3. Prescribe Pola Day or Pola Night to maintain brightness if desired.Prepare a custom made bleaching trays for that purpose. Personal protection 1.Respiratory protection: Not required under normal conditions of use. 2.Hand protection: Chemical resistant gloves. 3.Eye protection: Safety glasses, goggles or face shield. General safety and hygiene measures: Safety shower and eye bath. Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Follow good housekeeping practices and good industrial hygiene in handling this material. First Aid Measures 1.Eye (contact): Immediately flush open eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention. Make sure the patient's, dentist's and auxiliary's eyes are protected. 2.Skin (contact): Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with plenty of water. Skin may appear temporarily bleached white. 3.Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, drink lots of water/milk. Seek medical attention. 4.Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give AR respiration. If breathing is difficult, seek medical advice.
