A Multi-faceted Treatment Approach for Anterior Reconstructions Using Current Ceramics, Implants and Adhesive Systems

A Multi-faceted Treatment Approach for Anterior Reconstructions Using Current Ceramics, Implants and Adhesive Systems
Of all developments in dental technology, fulfilling the esthetic and functional demands of a patient is still a challenge for both dentists and dental technicians. This becomes more difficult for patients with a previous treatment history that is not ideal. This case presentation demonstrates reconstruction of an anterior zirconia resin-bonded fixed dental prosthesis (RBFDP) for the mandible with a combined treatment approach utilizing veneers for harmonized space distribution on the abutment teeth and an implant-supported zirconia fixed dental prosthesis in the anterior segment of the maxilla. Adhesive cementation if the restorations is also presented in a step-by-step approach based on the current state of the art.

Clinical Performance of Porcelain Laminate Veneers: Outcomes of the Aesthetic Pre-evaluative Temporary (APT) Technique

Clinical Performance of Porcelain Laminate Veneers: Outcomes of the Aesthetic Pre-evaluative Temporary (APT) Technique
The article evaluates the long-term clinical performance of porcelain laminate veneers bonded to teeth prepared with the use of an additive mock-up and aesthetic pre-evaluative temporary (APT) technique over a 12-year period. Sixty-six patients were restored with 580 porcelain lamintate veneers. Over 12 years, 42 laminate veneers failed, but when the preparations were limited to the enamel, the failure rate resulting from debonding and microleakage decreased to 0%. Porcelain laminate veneers presented a successful clinical performance in terms of marginal adaptation, discoloration, gingival recession, secondary caries, postoperative sensitivity, and satisfaction with restoration shade at the end of 12 years. The APT technique facilitated diagnosis, communication and preparation providing predictability for the restorative treatment. Limiting the preparation depth to the enamel surface significantly increases the performance of porcelain laminate veneers.

Ethics and Economics of Composite Resin Restoration

Ethics and Economics of Composite Resin Restoration
When I began my dental career, the full crown was really the main option being taught for esthetic dentistry. With the development of composite resins, we could refrain from reducing valuable enamel.

Orthodontic Caries Control and Bleaching

Orthodontic Caries Control and Bleaching
Oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment can be facilitated by applying bleaching materials to elevate the pH of the mouth during the course of treatment. Fabrication of thermoplastic bleaching trays directly in the mouth over the braces without impressions affords a reasonable technique for the multiple trays required during the orthodontic changes.

Efficacy and Persistence of Tooth Bleaching Using a Diode Laser with Three Different Treatment Regimens

Efficacy and Persistence of Tooth Bleaching Using a Diode Laser with Three Different Treatment Regimens
Bleaching is the most conservative esthetic treatment for discolored teeth when compared to resin-bonded composites, porcelain veneers, or crowns. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of power bleaching using a laser assisted hydrogen peroxide system, and to determine the stability of the color change over a 6-month period.

Use of a Reflectance Spectrophotometer in Evaluating Shade Change Resulting from Tooth-Whitening Products
Historically, shade change assessment associated with vital bleaching treatment regimens has been visually evaluated through the use of shade guide tabs. Innovations in the industry of dentistry have brought forth new technologies capable of measuring such changes via the capture and analysis of reflected wavelengths of light.

The Status of Tooth Whitening Techniques 1999

The Status of Tooth Whitening Techniques 1999
Tooth whitening of vital teeth continues to have a major impact on the practice of dentistry. The growing public interest in having whiter, brighter teeth is clearly evident in the advertisements from toothpaste manufacturers on "whitening" formulations of their products and by the number of individuals seeking whitening procedures from their dentists. In addition, new over-the-counter whitening products continue to emerge in a marketplace that cannot seem to get teeth white enough, bright enough, fast enough.

Anterior Substructure Design Considerations for Lithium Disilicate Crowns

Anterior Substructure Design Considerations for Lithium Disilicate Crowns
Considering anterior substructure designs for lithium disilicate crowns, a hybrid substructure design that supports a cusp to fossa anterior guidance relationships can increase the strength of the ceramic system without having to compromise the esthetic integrity of the crown. Refractive index values increase when the substructure thickens. Increasing the thickness of the substructure results in a crown of higher value.

The Harmony of Pink and White

The Harmony of Pink and White
Advances in technology have created many options in dental therapy. Implant therapy is becoming widely used to improve patients' oral function and make them satisfied. Clinicians are discovering the anatomical relationship of implant and soft tissue with the limitations of implant therapy. On the other hand, patients are demanding more beautiful smiles. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the harmony of pink and white in esthetic and functional restorative therapy.
