The Aesthetic Cad/Cam Interface

Description:
Computer aided design and computer aided manufacture has been involved in Dentistry for many years. Since the 1980’s we have been trying to produce in-surgery porcelain restorations with considerable variation in success. Common criticisms of this technique have been poor fits, poor aesthetics and poor occlusal control. Dr Julian Caplan has been involved in developing techniques utilizing this constantly changing technology to overcome these short falls. He has now reached a position where he is able to create beautiful, well fitting multiple restorations that allow proper functional control and he achieves this in a single day. This lecture will concentrate on Cerec technology and how he has utilized this over the last 10 years to producing highly aesthetic smile makeovers in a day.

The primary and some secondary anatomy is detailed in the provisionals either from the wax up or by recontouring the temporaries. The tertiary anatomy is place by hand post-milling. I recommend doing your own wax-ups to really get a handle on the case - predominately additive where ever possible

Hi, congratulations for your cases! Just a question about the finishing steps : before stains and glazure, do you modify the macrogeography of the crown facial aspect with burs (to make concavity for example)? Best regards, dr BAKHOUCHE

Effectiveness of a Super-Pulsed CO2 Laser For Removal of Biofilm From Three Different Types of Implant Surfaces: An In Vitro Study
As dental implants become a routine part of dental practice, so too will the prevalence of peri-implant diseases. Inherent to the treatment of peri-implant disease is the removal of microbial biofilms from the implant surface. Currently, there is no standardized protocol for application of any treatment modality directed at implant surface decontamination. In this in vitro study, we report on the effectiveness of a super-pulsed CO2 laser, delivering an average fluence of 6.3 to 113 J/cm2, to remove biofilm from three different types of implant surface topographies. Biofilms ranged in thickness from 5 to 15 μm. An average fluence of 19 J/cm2 was sufficient to achieve 100% ablation of the biofilm on hydrophilic sandblasted and acidetched surface specimens (SA). However, to achieve 100% ablation of biofilm on HA and highly crystalline, phosphate enriched titanium oxide (PTO) surfaced implants required an average fluence of 38 J/cm2.
