Immediate Implant Placement and Loading of a Canine with a Thin Labial Plate - Surgical Video - Part 1 of 2

Description:
In this extremely detailed surgical video presentation, Dr. Alvaro Ordonez, a surgeon based in Miami, demonstrates the minimally invasive approach to the treatment of a canine with root resorption and a thin labial plate. Digitally based diagnosis and treatment planning leads the way to meticulous extraction, implant placement and temporization. The utilization of an angled implant to facilitate restorative orientation is also discussed in detail. In addition, a step-by-step temporization process is outlined for both surgeons and restorative dentists.

nice case dr ordonez, why such a long implant? is it due to length of canine root?

DEAR DR ALVARO EXCELLENT PRESENTATION PLEASE DO TELL ABOUT WHAT KIND OF OCCLUSION WAS GIVEN TO THIS PT AFTER TEMPROIZATION

Alvaro Ordonez - (9/2/2011 10:37 AM)

Dear Dr Florez:
As you saw in the video the provisional restoration was the same extracted tooth relined in some areas with composite, therefore you would expect the same type of staining that a regular composite placed in a tooth would have. This case is now restored and perhaps we could post the restorative phase as a second part here in XP, i will talk to eddie about it.

Surgical Concepts to Treat Esthetic Implant Disaster Cases - Part 1 of 2
The utilization of dental implants in the esthetic zone is a challenge for involved clinicians. With the increasing application of dental implants by non-experienced colleagues, the occurrence of esthetic failures with implant supported restorations is raising. This lecture will address the causes for such esthetic failures and the surgical approach for therapy. In most cases, implant removal is necessary, which must be done with a low-trauma technique to avoid additional bone loss. Today, this is done with special implant removal instruments using the Reverse Torque Technique. In addition, these failures are often characterized by a lack of keratinized mucosa. The current strategies for the reestablishment of keratinized mucosa and for the augmentation of missing bone, mainly on the facial aspects are presented and documented with case reports. This includes aspects of timing, surgical techniques, and the selection of appropriate biomaterials.

Bone Graft Solutions in the Treatment of a Defective & Deficient Ridges; Advantages of Combined Therapy Premium Member Content

Bone Graft Solutions in the Treatment of a Defective & Deficient Ridges; Advantages of Combined Therapy
More patients are treated with implants than ever before. Unfortunately, many have insufficient bone available to support an implant prosthesis. This presentation describes the utilization of several different augmentation approaches for the severely resorbed ridge and dentally handicapped fully endentulous patient. Current concepts related to autogenous bone harvest, 3D bone augmentation combined with blood born bioactive modifiers and digital planning are defined. Video and high resolution images are utilized to further describe these approaches.

Managing Technology for Best Outcomes and Productivity
Digital technology provides tools to improve planning, clinical execution, prosthetic design, manufacturing, maintenance, and cost of care. Dental professionals need to understand the value of individual technologies as well as the benefit derived from linking them together. During this presentation, a business model and clinical cases will be used to illustrate how a number of digital technologies can impact outcomes and productivity.

Esthetic Tissue Reconstruction Around Implants - Part 1 of 2 Premium Member Content

Esthetic Tissue Reconstruction Around Implants - Part 1 of 2
Esthetics in implant-supported restorations is an important clinical objective in contemporary dentistry. Understanding the biological behavior of hard and soft tissues following tooth extraction is the first step to anticipate the physiological tissue remodeling and its consequences. Our objective in these 2 sequencial lectures was to provide straightforward decision trees related to several clinical scenarios observed in routine clinical practice. The 3 fundamental pillars for peri-implant excellence are: restorative-driven implant position, hard and soft tissue reconstruction using different biomaterials and grafts, and prosthetic management. Using this philosophical approach seems to provide esthetic and stable results over time irrespective of the initial clinical condition.

Zygomatic Implants in the Treatment of Fully Edentulous Patients Premium Member Content

Zygomatic Implants in the Treatment of Fully Edentulous Patients
This presentation aims to bring some possibilities in the treatment of edentulous patients with a severe atrophic maxilla. The major problem is that the absence of an appropriate bone bed, will compromise any approach with bone grafts and substitutes, as well as involving a greater morbidity and treatment time. In this way the oral rehabilitation with zygomatic implants is a current need for many patients, which will require a scientific knowledge of the dental care professional. Through this slide show and video demonstration you will be able to recognize and diagnose cases recommended for the therapy with zygomatic implants and its possible configurations supporting an oral rehabilitation.

The Reality of Anatomy and the Triangle of Bone

The Reality of Anatomy and the Triangle of Bone
“Reality of Anatomy” is a concept developed by the author to describe the anatomical relationship between the tooth, the surrounding alveolar housing, the clinical crown, the root, and other important anatomy. Most textbooks, manufacturers’ literature, journal articles, and meeting presentations describe a relationship of the tooth to bone. These illustrations are acceptable in teaching the concept of crown-to-root ratio and are useful in describing certain procedures related to implant procedures.…

Long Term Follow-Up of Dental Implants Placed in Autologous Onlay Bone Graft
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of autologous intraoral onlay bone grafting (OBG) in correlation with long-term survival rates of dental implants placed in the augmented bone. A retrospective study was conducted on 214 patients who received a total of 633 dental implants placed in 224 autologous intraoral block OBG augmentations, combined with Bio-Oss – mixed with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and covered by platelet-poor plasma (PPP) – as scaffold, with a follow-up time up to 137 months. We suggest that augmentation of severely atrophied jaw bone through the placement of horizontal and/or vertical intraoral OBGs in combination with Bio-Oss saturated with PRP and covered by PPP should be considered a reliable, safe, and very effective surgical technique for obtaining high bone graft survival rate and high long-term implant survival rate.
