Narrow Diameter Implants - Part 2

Description:
In this second of a series, Dr. Murray Arlin, a periodontist from Toronto, Canada, specifically goes into great detail into the pre-operative treatment planning and preparation for the successful utilization of narrow diameter implants, especially one-piece implant options. 3-D imaging, surgical guides and detailed restorative applications are emphasized.

Great job Murray. Have you altered anything regarding the use of one piece implants now that there are two piece options at 3.0mm with most implant systems? thanks Maurice

I think it's a very good presentation specially for those professionals have doubt about if your cases are good or not. Congratulations to professor Murray Arlin and I would like to visit him in Toronto next April.

great vids (1/2). It's great to hear the surgeon's opinions, and I wonder what our horizon is for guided surgery. I imagine guided surgery for these one piece systems to be incorporated to having the final restoration prefabricated along with the guide. It's already occurring for two piece systems, so it's all about the CAD/CAM software. Seeing that the narrow implant restorations are based off of a knife edge impression, it would be interesting to see if implant companies can custom fabricate a one piece system (implant body and abutment) to work with a guided surgery and prefab crown based off of a CT scan. I see this as important, as the all porcelain restorations have limitations with margin thickness if they are milled. Even the restorations shown on radiographs demonstrate bulky marins from traditional impressions and PFMs. It would be the next step to where Sirona has taken it so far with their gallileos and cerec. Fifty Years of Interdisciplinary Site Development: Lessons & Guidelines from Periodontal Prosthesis
Just as "osseointegration" became synonymous with successful restoration of function in the fully edentulous patient during the 1980s, the term "implant site development" has become intricately associated in the 1990s with the techniques used to achieve esthetic results with implants in the partially edentulous patient. This article explores the roots of the concept of site development within the philosophy and principles of periodontal prosthesis. In addition, the myriad of techniques that are…

Improving Implant Framework

Improving Implant Framework
Passive fit of implant frameworks is related in part to the accuracy of the mastercast. A method of fabricating a verification stent to check the accuracy of the master cast prior to waxing and casting the implant framework is discussed. The methods utilize routinely available materials and do not require any special instrumentation or equipment. The stent can be fabricated either by the laboratory or the dentist.
