Wendy AuClair-Thank you for your advice and your highly concern of my question. I am clear now.

Island Mak - You're right; with a small lesion, an excisional biopsy would be ideal. Many of the lesions we see are on the posterior tongue or on the soft palate. These can be challenging areas for a general dentist (or a prostho like me) to be access, and may be better referred to an oral surgeon or ENT to biopsy.

It is a very nice lecture. However,I'm recently studying a book. I am doubt on that we should do the incisional biopsy when we suspect the lesion is malignant. Please let me know why we cannot do the excisional biopsy although it is a small lesion but we suspect it as a malignant tumor.

Smoking - A Risk Factor for Periodontal Disease (in Spanish)
Tobacco is a major risk factor in the development and severity of periodontal disease, as well as in the response to periodontal therapy. It is essential that methods be employed to increase awareness of the adverse effects on the oral cavity directly related to smoking, specifically the relationship between the latter and its impact on periodontal tissue.
