Implant Placement into a preserved or regenerated socket/ridge is usually straight forward and is featured in other areas on this site. I also would like to see Dr. Horowitz show us the re-entry on some of these cases in a future presentation. Perhaps some histology as well to prove his views. Dr. Salama

To demonstrate a new technique of controlled ridge splitting (CRS) in severely atrophied maxillary cases as an alternative to autogenous block graft. Twenty cases were completed using a controlled ridge splitting (CRS) technique with a total of 65 implants were placed in severely atrophied Maxillae and followed after the implants were loaded.

Interpositional Bone Grafts to Treat the Posterior Atrophic Mandible
This presentation analyzes the interpositional bone graft or inlay technique, discussing the reconstructive surgical approach. Horizontal osteotomy with the interposition of bone in the form of a “sandwich” involves raising a coronal osteotomized segment of the mandible, which is still attached to the lingual periosteum, and interpositioning a block bone graft. This technique guarantees a dual vascular supply to the inlay graft from the lingual periosteum and from the residual bone; it also allows optimum use of the native basal bone, which should be less prone to resorption. The advantages and disadvantages of the inlay technique are compared with other commonly used augmentation techniques in the management of posterior mandibular atrophies.

Site Preparation & Osseodensification in Bone Management
Today's implant arena involves not only the understanding of procedures but also the science behind wound healing. Often new technologies and instrumentation evolves that have a significant impact on what we are able to do clinically. Socket Gafting with the use of Autologous Bone - an Experimental Study in the Dog
In five beagle dogs, the distal roots of the third and fourth mandibular premolars were removed. The sockets in the right or the left jaw quadrant were grafted with either anorganic bovine bone or with chips of autologous bone harvested from the buccal bone plate. After 3 months of healing, biopsies of the experimental sites were sampled, prepared for buccal–lingual ground sections and examined with respect to size and composition.
