Restorative vs. Orthodontic Therapy; Alternative Management and Lab-Dentist Communication
Patients often refuse orthodontic realignment and correction due to the length of treatment required even if it may be the best or most conservative therapy. In same cases, patients will get anxious about having metal or even invisible ceramic braces in their mouth for even a short period of time. On other hand, cosmetic dentistry is able to satisfy the patients with the same needs by using porcelain-veneers as an alternative to orthodontics treatment. This presentation describes a patient who has rejected orthodontic therapy but continues to seek a improved cosmetic result. Porcelain veneers and crowns were an appropriate alternative in this case. Follow-ups of treatment display a successful cosmetic and functional result.

Restorative margins ending subgingival are considered “normal” and out of the control of the restorative dentist, but in reality subgingival margins are mostly avoidable and preventable! We have the technique and materials to be able to consider all of the above part of the history of dentistry.

The "Hybrid Abutment": A New Design for Implant Cemented Restorations in the Esthetic Zones

The "Hybrid Abutment": A New Design for Implant Cemented Restorations in the Esthetic Zones
Cemented implant restorations are widely used by many dentists. The traditional abutment design resembles a natural tooth prepared for a crown with a similar taper and a chamfer finish line. A frequent complication associated with implant restorations in the esthetic zones is the recession of buccal gingiva over time. Abutment morphology, among several other prosthetic factors, may play an important role in the stability of gingival margin in esthetically sensitive areas, but this has never been thoroughly analyzed. With many considerations in mind and recent techniques released, this article proposes the "hybrid abutment: design (HAD), a new design that includes a combination of the two types of features - a feather edge on the buccal side, and a chamfer finish line on the lingual side. This article also presents a rationale for the use of different abutment designs for different situations.

Vonlays: A Conservative Esthetic Alternative to Full-Coverage Crowns

Vonlays: A Conservative Esthetic Alternative to Full-Coverage Crowns
Porcelain veneers have long been a popular restorative option that have evolved into a well-accepted treatment that can be fabricated in various ways. Onlays are another common treatment modality used in contemporary dentistry to restore large areas of decay and to replace old restorations. With the availability of newer high-strength materials such as lithium disilicate and processing technologies like CAD/CAM and heat pressing, dental professionals are now able to produce highly esthetic, high-strength restorations that blend seamlessly with the natural dentition while also withstanding posterior occlusal forces. This has resulted in innovative methods of providing minimally invasive dentistry. One such approach is a combination restoration the authors call a “vonlay,” which, as demonstrated in this case report, can be used as an alternative to coverage crowns to restore damaged posterior teeth.
