The Merger of Orthodontics with Cosmetic Dentistry
As orthodontists, we don’t do laminates. But when we are finishing a case, sometimes the smile just doesn’t “look right”. But not all our patients either want or can afford laminates. Not all even need them to get a great smile. So, what principles can we learn from the cosmetic dentists and use in our orthodontic cases? Apparently quite a lot! In this presentation, Dr. Sarver will illustrate finishing procedures such as reshaping contacts, connectors, embrasures, and even soft tissue contouring with lasers to achieve that next level of smile presentation in your orthodontic cases.

The Trial Smile Experience
Have you ever thought that if your patients only knew how much a smile makeover could enhance their faces, they would be interested in cosmetic dentistry? The Trial Smile Experience is an interactive exercise that demonstrates the facial improvement that your patients can expect to achieve, while building trust and eliminating their fear of the unknown. In addition, the model of the trial smile allows the clinician to communicate the esthetically driven aspects of the treatment plan to their technician and specialists. This tool is sure to create more cosmetic dentistry in your practice, and you will learn: • When the Trial Smile Experience is most effective • How to use digital photography for co-discovery with your patients • Techniques for performing an effective clinical mock up (trial smile) • How to use the mounted trial smile model and digital images to communicate with your technician and specialists

Chu's Aesthetic Gauges: Proportion
The Proportion Gauge has the T-bar tip on one end and an In-line tip on the opposite end. The T-bar tip is used on teeth with normal alignment and the In-line tip is used for crooked or crowded teeth where the horizontal arm of the T-bar is obstructed by the rotated teeth. The instrument is used to measure the width and length of maxillary anterior teeth. The tip measurements have a predetermined ratio of about 78% (based on the study results on the average width, length ratio of the maxillary anterior…

Aesthetic Excellence Through Outcome-Based Treatment Rationale

Aesthetic Excellence Through Outcome-Based Treatment Rationale
The conceptual basis of restorative-driven implant dentistry is well established among clinicians. Its implementation includes the development of a prosthetic blueprint that will serve as a guide throughout therapy. While these concepts may be applied to prosthetic dentistry in general, their benefits are most compelling in the treatment of the aesthetic zone. This article demonstrates a systematic multidimensional approach for the establishment and incorporation of definitive aesthetic objectives throughout…
