Modern Occlusal Concepts in Esthetic & Implant Dentistry

Modern Occlusal Concepts in Esthetic & Implant Dentistry
Occlusion is probably not one of the most popular topics in dental meetings and conferences nowadays especially if compared to implants and esthetics. Indeed it was considered in dentistry much more important just a few years ago than it is now. There is growing distance between the evolution of scientific research in the field, including available recent literature and several popular clinical approaches. It seems even difficult to have universal definitions related to this topic: the term “occlusion” itself is often associated with different adjectives to define it and many other terms are used with quite often differences in meaning, each of us gives a different meaning to the same terms, according to differences in treatment philosophies or in different specialties.

The Key Role of the Provisional Restoration as a Blueprint in Esthetic Tx Premium Member Content

The Key Role of the Provisional Restoration as a Blueprint in Esthetic Tx
Thru the direct Aesthetic Provisional Application technique, the provisional will serve as a preparation guide, aesthetic guide to both patient and lab as well as an occlusal guide. This gives the practitioner total control over the case, gives the patient a true visualization of what the permanent teeth will look like and gives the laboratory an accurate tooth position to be copied into final form. The d-APA is done with flowable compostite in the patient’s mouth thru a series of additions and reductions to the teeth to gain final position. Although challenging, the technique becomes very rewarding by placing artistry and control into the hands of the dentist.

Digital Workflow for Anterior Implant Aesthetics Premium Member Content

Digital Workflow for Anterior Implant Aesthetics
We have seen excellent results in the aesthetic zone when immediate implant placement techniques have been used. A review of the current literature reveals and confirms the re-education of mid-buccal facial recession is best when an immediate provisional is used. If we can digitize this information and create a crown-root form matrix, we can allow tissue to maintain the exact 3D position of the crown and root of the tooth that is to be replaced. A technique using "dicom" files and "STL" files of the original tooth-root will be demonstrated. This will allow ideal healing of the surrounding hard and soft tissues in for any implants restoration.

Splints Are Not Just for TMJ Therapy Part II: Fabrication Technique
When only the canine or the incisors contact in lateral movement, there is a neurologic feedback mechanism that prevents excessive muscular contraction (the more teeth that contact the greater the possible contractile stress and thus muscular overload).

Prosthetic Considerations with Periodontal Root Resective Therapy Part 1
Previousiy, the presence of a probable furcation with in a multi rooted tooth was considered an indication for extraction. Loss of attachment in the furcation has traditionally been described as classes I, II , or [ II, depending on the extent of horizontal penetration into the furcation. Tamow and Fletcher subsequently included a vertical component classification with its horizontal counterpart. Interestingly, both of these classifications are based only on periodontal probing depths rather than…

Anterior Substructure Design Considerations for Lithium Disilicate Crowns

Anterior Substructure Design Considerations for Lithium Disilicate Crowns
Considering anterior substructure designs for lithium disilicate crowns, a hybrid substructure design that supports a cusp to fossa anterior guidance relationships can increase the strength of the ceramic system without having to compromise the esthetic integrity of the crown. Refractive index values increase when the substructure thickens. Increasing the thickness of the substructure results in a crown of higher value.
