Zirconium Implant Placement, Soft Tissue Graft and Transitional Prosthesis in the Esthetic Zone - Part 1 of 2

Description:
This video presentation will highlight the utilization of a One-Piece Zirconium Implant placed into a previously grafted anterior site in combination with a connective tissue graft to maximize the esthetic result. The utilization of zirconium instruments and drills from Z Systems will be highlighted as well as the harvest and suturing of autogenous connective tissue. Proper fabrication of a temporary non-loaded transitional appliance will also be described in a step by step manner utilizing an Essix Retainer from Raintree and denture teeth.

Questions & Comments
Maurice Salama - (2/22/2012 3:54 PM)

Mansour; That is a fair question. Zirconium implants do not have the same history that titanium implants have but they are FDA approved and have shown similar success of osseointegration to that of titanium implants. The BIG question is really how the crestal bone will hold up over many years. So far so good.
thanks for the post
Dr. Salama

hi Dr.salama and thanks a lot for sharing but my question is,how do you evaluate zirconium implants?since we are working since many years with titanium implants and we have seen the response in long therm.thanks again.

Maurice Salama - (5/20/2011 7:47 AM)

Francois & Hayfa'a; Yes, there are many studies on Zirconium implants available in the literature. The Z Systems has One-Piece Implants only but there are other Zirconium Implant Systems available that have a 2-Piece product as well. Zirconium has shown an ability to osseointegrate and is quite friendly to the soft tissue as well. thanks Dr. Salama

Excellent presentation Dr. Salama. Do we have study about zirconium implant?

Maurice Salama - (1/26/2011 12:55 PM)

Dr Hayfa'a Bashir; The literature appears to show a similar osseointegration of Zirconium implants as Titanium. Some caveats; the implant is currently available ONLY in One-Piece and requires preparation of the abutment intra-orally and is NOT suggested for immediate loading or temporization. Thank you for your post Dr. Salama

dr. Hayfa'a Bashir - (1/26/2011 7:10 AM)

Hi,Dr.Salama, GREAT!! its nice to use zirconium implant system & Z-instruments instead of Ti -implants for allergic patients. BUT,is the integrity of osseointegration in zirconium implant to bone is similar to that between metal & bone? -Can it used in all bone qualities of jaws? -This system is delivered in (one piece) only??? Thank u,,, Dr. Hayfa'a A. Bashir GBOI-DGZI;batch 2-SUDAN.

Thank you , Dr.Salama .Did you ever consider GBR+CTG for this case ?and the Zirconium implants all made in one piece ?

Maurice Salama - (1/5/2011 10:30 AM)

Dentimp; Great question. As we do not know the fate of the buccal plate's resorption after implant placement, in the esthetic zone Zirconium Implants (shown here) and/or abutments are useful to hide any color change. Additionally the CTG graft (shown here) helps to thicken the attached gingiva and also prevent negative changes to the gingival stability and color even if some labial plate resorption takes place.

I notice that the drill " shadow " appeared during prep ,will the buccal bone be too thin ?

An implant-supported restoration offers a predictable treatment for tooth replacement. 1–3 Success rates for implants are high. Never the-less,failures that mandate implant removal do occur. This lengthens and complicates the treatment process, 3–7 as well as jeopardize the clinician’s efforts to accomplish satisfactory function and esthetics. For the patient, this usually involves further cost and additional procedures.

Facial Development, Continuous Tooth Eruption, and Mesial Drift as Compromising Factors for Implant Placement

Facial Development, Continuous Tooth Eruption, and Mesial Drift as Compromising Factors for Implant Placement
The replacement of teeth lost by children because of trauma can be an important indication for early implant therapy. Osseointegrated dental implants, like ankylosed teeth, alter position as growth-related changes occur within the jawbones (displacement, remodeling, mesial drift). Facial growth of the child and even of the adolescent, as well as the continuous eruption of the adjacent anterior teeth, create significant risk of a less favorable esthetic and/or functional outcome. For patients with…

Immediate Loading of Bilaterally Splinted Titanium Root-Form Implants in Fixed Prosthodontics
A load-free healing period has been advocated as a prerequisite to achieving osseointegration. This article reports two cases in which immediate loading of a specially designated additional or "expendable" set of titanium root-form implants was successfully utilized to support provisional fixed restorations in the maxilla and the mandible. This immediate-loading protocol is suggested as a reliable adjunctive therapeutic modality for offering implant patients access to fixed interim restorations…
