Gary DeWood, DDS, MS
Dr. Gary DeWood, a native of Toledo, Ohio, earned a B.S. in Education at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio and a D.D.S. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He and his wife, Dr. Cheryl DeWood, completed a General Practice Residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio before establishing a general practice near Toledo. 21 years later Cheryl returned to school, completing an orthodontic residency and earning a Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee in Memphis while Gary transitioned their practice and earned an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences at The University of Toledo College of Medicine. In 2003 he accepted a position on the full time faculty at the Pankey Institute. In 2008 he left Pankey to accept a position as president of the Seattle Institute, Frank Spear’s education company and re-located to the northwest. Upon the merger of the Seattle Institute with the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry, all teaching activities were shifted to Arizona and Gary traveled to Phoenix to direct curriculum and clinical education activities for the new company, Spear Education. Cheryl had remained in Memphis as program director of graduate orthodontics at Tennessee and the DeWoods had maintained two households for seven years. In 2009 Cheryl left her position at Tennessee and today both Gary and Cheryl reside in Phoenix.

Gary has presented to international audiences in the areas of occlusion, temporo-mandibular disorders, bite splint therapy in restorative practices, restorative dentistry, esthetics, financial management, and practice management.
Gary is a member of the ADA, the Arizona Dental Association, the Central Arizona Dental Society, the American Equilibration Society, the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
