Summary:
The objective of this proof-of-principle study was to examine the potential for improved bone regenerative outcomes in maxillary sinus augmentation procedures when recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor BB (0.3 mg/mL) is combined with particulate anorganic bovine
bone mineral. The surgical outcomes in all treated sites were uneventful at 6 to 8 months, with sufficient regenerated bone present to allow successful placement of maxillary posterior implants.

Applied Techniques for Predictable Suture Placement Part 2
Precise suture positioning is critical for adequate tissue healing and can be facilitated using a variety of techniques for closure. Part 1 of this article presented a discussion on the various interrupted, continuous, and periosteal suturing techniques for tissue maintenance. This article will present additional modalities available to ensure predictable healing and flap security fallowing a variety of surgical invasions.

Surgical and Orthodontic Management of Impacted Maxillary Canines
Although the mechanical management of impacted teeth is a routine task for most orthodontists, certain impactions can be frustrating, and the esthetic outcome can be unpredictable if the surgeon uncovers the impacted tooth improperly. When referring a patient to have an impacted toothuncovered, theorthodontist might assume incorrectly that the surgeon knows which surgical procedure to use. However, if not instructed properly, the surgeon could select an inappropriate technique, leaving the orthodontist with…

Mucosal Coronally Positioned Flap for the Management of Excessive Gingival Display in the Presence of Hypermobility of the Upper Lip and Vertical Maxillary Excess: A Case Report
Excessive gingival display is a frequent
finding that can occur because of various
intraoral or extraoral etiologies. This report describes
the use of a mucosal coronally positioned flap for the
management of a gummy smile associated with vertical
maxillary excess and hypermobility of the upper
lip. For patients desiring a less invasive
alternative to orthognathic surgery, the mucosal coronally
positioned flap is a viable alternative. We demonstrate
short-term successful use of this technique
for the management of excessive gingival display in
the presence of slight vertical maxillary excess and
hypermobility of the upper lip. Long-term follow-up
studies are needed to determine stability of the results.

Surgical Management of Posterior Mandible
Implant therapy is a recognized treatment for edentulous areas with long term success. Nevertheless in some critical situations we have to use complex techniques of advanced oral surgery and bone regeneration to permit the implant placement avoiding the damage of important anatomical structures, like the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN). In severe cases of posterior mandible atrophy we have to use very specific techniques to solve the problem. In these techniques we can consider the nerve transposition and the nerve lateralization. The techniques of nerve manipulation for implant placement are going to be explained in detail with some clinical cases. With this lecture we pretend to clear that oral neurosurgery is not a myth and can be a reality in specific extreme cases.

Horizontal Augmentation Through the Ridge-Split Procedure: A Predictable Surgical Modality in Implant Reconstruction
The need for an adequate alveolar ridge width has been a long-standing principle in pre-prosthetic surgery. Since the introduction of root-form endosseous dental implants, the necessity of proper alveolar ridge width has become essential. In this presentation, the author concentrated on the ridge-split procedure (RSP) as a form of a ridge modification (widening or augmentation), the technique that offers many possibilities and has many advantages in oral pre-prosthetic implant reconstruction. There are many modifications of the RSP. This presentation is a description of classical ridge-split procedure in maxilla and mandible that has been successfully employed for many years in author’s surgical practice.

Positive & Negative Factors in Stem Cells & Wound Healing: Solutions for Long Term Stability
The main factor for soft and hard tissue healing is the speed and quality of new vascularization.
This lecture will present all the positive and negative factors who control the angiogenesis, blood supply and bone metabolism:
-Biological factors as vit. D and cholesterol have to be checked before the surgery
-The management of the flaps with sutures is one the main factor for the bone and soft tissue maintenance..
-The soft brushing technique is a new technique which increases the flap without periosteal incision nor bleeding.
-Careful Implant placement without too much torque, specially in cortical bone or grafted bone at the re-entry..
-The A-PRF liquid and i-PRF are solutions to reduce the mobility of the granules (sticky bone) with an improvement of angiogenesis
The use of growth factors is a stimulation of angiogenesis.
The prevention of the negative factors will allow us to achieve the long term stability.
