Summary:

The evolution of suture materials has presented today's clinician with numerous alternatives when performing dental suturing. Contemporary sutures not only eliminate some of the difficulties that the surgeon may have encountered previously during closure, but also decrease the potential of postoperative infection and help provide optimal healing. Despite the sophistication of the suture materials (ie, Perma Sharp, Hu-Friedy, Chicago, IL) and surgical techniques now available, closing a wound still involves the same essential procedure used by physicians who tended to the Roman emperors. The practitioner still utilizes a surgical needle to pull the suture strand as it is placed within the tissue.

The CO2 Laser and it's Application in Modern Clinical Oral Surgery
Co2 Laser is a simple and versatile tool which can replace the knife for majority of minor oral surgical procedures which can be done on the chair side under local anaesthesia. The advantage of Co2 laser is a fact that it creates a bloodless, painless and heals with minimal scarring. Most common applications which include frenctomies, exposure of impacted teeth, pre-orthodontic exposure of canines, Excision of small fibromas, papillomas, warts and mucoceoles. Small hemangiomas and lymphangiomas can also be excised with minimal blood loss. This presentation gives the viewer an overview of the co2 laser and its application in various clinical scenarios. The safety aspect of using laser for the patient, operator and dental surgery assistants is also demonstrated.

Upper central incisor impaction has functional, esthetic and psychologic implications. Causes of the impaction can be divided in obstructive and traumatic. Among the first ones are: supernumerary teeth, odontomas and mesiodens. Among the second group are facial trauma received in the primary or early mixed dentition. In close relation as well with root dilaceration. Other less common reasons for impaction include: crowding, endocrine alterations, bone diseases, genetic conditions, extraction or ankylosis of primary incisors. The impacted upper central incisor can be classified depending on: mesio-distal position, occluso-gingival position, midline angulation, degree of root formation. If early intervention is not enough. There is the need for surgical exposure and orthodontic traction. Among possible treatment complications are: esthetic gingival sequelae, ankylosis and root resorption
