Summary:
The generally accepted properties of an esthetic smile include harmony, balance, and continuity of form. Gingival recession within the esthetic zone is a primary disruptor of these properties and often must be corrected if an esthetic smile is to be achieved. Periodontal plastic therapeutic surgical techniques are the clinician’s tools for correcting such defects. Many surgical protocols have been described to achieve root coverage successfully. This article reviews and describes the tunnel technique with subepithelial connective tissue grafts for the coverage of multiple adjacent gingival recessions.

Use of the Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft to Improve Esthetics
The subepithelial connective tissue graft is a gingival grafting plastic surgery procedure that can be used to enhance the aesthetic and gingival contour of the periodontium around dental implants. This technique is described and illustrated to create a soft-tissue root prominence and mask the grey color penetrating the thin labial attached gingival tissues over dental implants.

Soft Tissue Cone-Beam Computed Tomography: A Novel Method for the Measurement of Gingival Tissue and the Dimensions of the Dentogingival Unit
The purpose of the
present study was to develop a soft tissue cone-beam computed tomography (ST-CBCT) to
improve soft tissue image quality and allow the determination of the dimensions and relationships
of the structures of the dentogingival unit. Two separate CBCT scans were obtained from
three patients with different periodontal biotypes. The first was a scan following standard
methods; however, for the ST-CBCT the patients wore a plastic lip retractor and retracted their
tongues toward the floor of their mouths.

The Great Debate on Soft Tissue Regeneration
Recession and soft tissue deficiencies are a significant challenge in restorative and implant dentistry. A variety of different approaches and techniques using minimally invasive flaps and micro-surgical instrumentation have been proposed in this session with some of the leading clinicians in the field. Vertical or Shoulderless Preparations in Contemporary Prosthodontics
Tooth preparations without a defined finish line have been termed in several different ways, such as knife edge, feather edge, or shoulderless.
From a biological standpoint, preserving a maximum amount of sound tooth structure, as it is done in vertical preparations, might also offer a more conservative alternative to a horizontal margin design in other clinical conditions such as endodontically treated teeth, vital teeth in young individual, teeth affected by caries at the cervical third. Vertical margins on zirconia crowns have been tested in vitro and clinical reports have been published. A re-evaluation of possible advantages and shortcomings of vertical preparation design in contemporary prosthodontics will be presented in light of recently published literature.

Prosthetic Soft Tissue Development From Single to Full Arch Reconstruction
In addition to surgical intervention is the creation of the specific emergence profile that is essential in the aesthetic zone. The emergence profile composed of 2 parts, the abutment and the subgingival part of the crown. The shape of abutment can be individually shaped so that it gives natural appearance and varies individually (depending on the depth, angulation and diameter of the implant). Sometimes it even dictates the implant position. From a surgical perspective, soft tissue height, position and thickness need to be diagnosed and corrected when needed. From the prosthetic point of view, the emergence profile has to be created to mimic the natural appearance and maintained over time in respect to the biological changes. The course teaches step by step how to be successful with implant prosthetics from single tooth, partially edentulous to full arch reconstruction.
