Course Overview
A Comprehensive Review of Nitrous Oxide, covers the renewed appreciation for this odorless and colorless gas and why it remains a mainstay of safe sedation in the dental practice. In this course, we review the history and chemical properties of N2O, as well as its safety record and effectiveness. You will learn protocols for administration, precautions to take, and potential risks.
Course Objectives
1. Review the physical and chemical properties of nitrous oxide.
2. Understand how nitrous oxide moves through the body.
3. Compare the potency of N2O to other anesthetics.
4. Discuss the main side effects associated with nitrous oxide.
5. Learn its history and pharmacology.
6. Review when to use nitrous oxide on a pregnant patient.
7. Planning for patients with psychological and mental disorders.
8. Learn about the manufacturing process and distribution of N2O.
9. Discuss the economics and overhead of providing nitrous oxide.
10. Understand the importance of titration in sedation.
11. Identify the signs and symptoms of oversedation.
12. Review the necessary precautions for sedating children with N2O.
