Course:
Sedation Fellowship - Antibiotics for Odontogenic Infections

Course Overview
This presentation is about acute odontogenic infections and the selection of appropriate antibiotics. Traditionally, antibiotics have been used in dentistry much differently than they are currently recommended today. But if we look at the past, penicillin was our first drug of choice, usually in the form of penvk. And for good reasons. The penicillins are not just bacterial static, they are truly bacterial cytal, they kill bacteria and they have few drug drug interactions. And historically, when we couldn't use penicillin due to an allergy, then we would use erythromycin, usually in the form of erythromycin, stearate or emycin. Or we might use tetracycline.
