Course Overview
Dental anxiety or a cardiac event? Learn cardiac rhythm recognition.
Pain, fear, and anxiety can all affect cardiac rhythm. Jim Bovia will discuss the electrical system of the heart and how to identify a normal rhythm plus different irregular heart rates that could indicate a cardiac event. You will learn how to read a heart rhythm monitor, recognize the signs of a serious cardiac event, and identify the underlying causes of irregular heart rates.
Course Objectives
1. Review the electrical system of the heart: sinus rhythm, QRS complex, P-R interval, SA node, AV node, T waves, P waves
2. Learn cardiac rhythm identification
3. Review irregular heart rate: Sinus bradycardia, Sinus tachycardia, Super ventricular tachycardia, Atrial fibrillation, Pulseless electrical activity, Atrial flutter
4. Learn to read heart rhythm on a monitor or print-out.
