Sedation Fellowship - Challenges to IV Sedation

Course Overview
Given the wide variation in patient population, the IV sedation clinician will face patients that present with challenges to the primary requirements of IV sedation, which are 1) Safety and 2) Efficacy.
These two requirements can be closely related. Making the sedation procedure safer can decrease efficacy. Conversely, increasing efficacy can decrease safety.
Course Objectives
1. Learn the red flags on a patient health history that present challenges to IV sedation
2. Discuss methodology to adapt for these issues
3. Determine when a medical consult is advisable
4. Consider drug interactions
5. How genetic variations can impact IV sedation
