Course Overview

This course develops clinicians' ability to differentiate between surgical mistakes and complications in implant dentistry and implement strategies to minimize both in complex cases. It explores biomechanical principles affecting implant stability and guides the selection of evidence-based surgical techniques for managing the atrophic posterior mandible. Learners will also formulate comprehensive treatment plans for failing full-arch restorations using advanced procedures while anticipating and managing potential complications.

Course Objectives

1. Critically evaluate the factors that differentiate between surgical mistakes and complications in implant dentistry, and formulate strategies to minimize the occurrence of each in complex clinical scenarios.

2. Analyze the biomechanical principles underlying the "boomerang effect" and the impact of periodontal ligament extraction on long-term soft and hard tissue stability around dental implants

3. Compare and contrast the indications, contraindications, advantages, and limitations of various surgical techniques for managing the atrophic posterior mandible

4. Formulate a comprehensive, staged treatment plan for a patient presenting with a failing full-arch implant restoration.
