Dr. Gakenheimer is one of the inventors of Logicon Caries Detector and presently the Product Line Manager for Carestream Dental. He has a PhD from the California Institute of Technology and worked for 34 years in the aerospace defense industry where he managed the development of Logicon Caries Detector which was a spin-off of image analysis work his division was doing for the government. He later joined Eastman Kodak (now Carestream). Dr. Gakenheimer was awarded a patent for the caries detection process and FDA approval as a PMA Class 3 device. Dr. Gakenheimer has continued to develop and improve the product and has recently submitted a new version to the FDA for approval.
