As an Implant Dentist, Jim enjoys restoring patients to a state of well-being and confidence concerning their ability to chew and smile. Many of his patients are peri- or post-menopausal females who are also experiencing hormonal issues. Hormonal imbalances can lead to compromised healing of dental bone grafts, dental implant surgery, and long- term periodontal health for patients. This led to his interest in hormonal salivary diagnostics as an aid to improve the dental health for his patients.
Oral health is dependent upon many factors, one of which is hormonal balance for men and women of all ages, but in particular for peri- and post-menopausal women (and men). Jim believes that hormonal balance, in turn, is a quality of life issue that extends beyond just oral and systemic health.
Jim’s PhD in Pharmacology provides him with an understanding of these issues and how to use salivary diagnostics to determine a patient’s hormone imbalance and, if necessary, how to correct this imbalance, which will most often lead to an improved quality of life.
In addition, he is also an in-demand lecturer about 25 times per year at both research and dental conventions about bone grafting, surgical anatomy for implant dentistry, medical emergencies in the dental office, hormones and oral health, as well as women’s hormonal issues.
Jim earned his Bachelors of Pharmacy from the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry and his PhD degree in Pharmacology/Toxicology from Duquesne University.
