Specialties:
Other Specialties,
Periodontics,

For the past twenty-five years, I have studied and applied the current concepts of "Anti-Microbial Periodontal Therapy". This treatment protocol is designed around the concept that Periodontal Diseases are infectious diseases and should be diagnosed and treated using the same concepts of treating other infectious diseases. This includes identification of the causative agents and treating the cause, not just the symptoms. The sciences of oral microbiology and immunology are critical in the disease initiation and progression. Therefore, the clinician needs a basic understanding of both of these sciences to understand the new paradigm of diagnosis and treatment.
The course will include the latest in scientific information and the use of DNA testing and Genetic testing to identify periodontal pathogens and those at high risk for disease progress and treatment success.
From a clinician’s viewpoint, I have the experience of treating many patients using the “Traditional Model” of examination and treatment. Plus the experience of treating literally thousands of patients using a more scientific model based around modern diagnostics and treatment protocol.
For the first 15 years of my private practice (1968-1983), I approached Periodontal Disease diagnosis and treatment in the same manner that is still being used in many practices today. However, for the past 23 years, I have followed this New Protocol called “Anti-Microbial” therapy with much more predictable & successful treatment. Each year brings new discoveries and treatment options that can help our patients in a more predictable and long lasting fashion. It is supported widely by the scientific community as well as informed Periodontists and General Dentists. Unfortunately for our patients, this information is not widely known or used by most in our profession.
I have attended numerous courses including ones at Temple University, University of Tennessee, and selective seminars on Periodontal Therapy. The protocol that I practice and teach is patterned after many years of scientific study regarding the etiology of periodontal disease, university studies of many treatment forms, and supported by both the scientific community and the AAP.
In my own office, I have treated over four thousand five hundred patients using this protocol with continual records over 20 years on many of these patients.
In 2004, I wrote and copyrighted the first treatment manual of its kind using the concepts of Anti-Microbial therapy.
