Computer Enhanced Implant Dentistry - Part 1 of 2

Description:
The traditional methods of creating implant supported restorations are on a precipice of change and are being replaced. The multiple technologies of 3D CBCT imaging, 3D modeling, digital restorative design and CADCAM production have contributed to this trend. Simultaneously, restorative materials have been introduced that have improved strength and esthetic qualities. Integration of these capabilities create opportunities enhanced restorative performance and practice efficiency. This presentation will highlight a practice-based model centered around Digitally Enhanced Treatment. Many elements of the digital workflow including digital treatment planning using merged datasets, guided implant surgery, and CADCAM restorative design will be presented in the context of their current limitations and the opportunity for efficient and predictable esthetic restorative outcomes. The goal of treatment success is based upon the thoughtful application of these technologies to an patient’s specific needs.

Post-Traumatic Treatment of Maxillary Incisors by Immediate Dentoalveolar Restoration with Long-Term Follow-Up
Replacing both missing maxillary interior teeth is particularly challenging, especially in compromised sockets. The case report describes the management of an 18-year-old female patient, who suffered avulsion of both maxillary central incisors at 7 years of age. The multidisciplinary implant technique, called Immediate Dentoalveolar Restoration (IDR), included extraction of the injured teeth and a single procedure for immediate implant placement and restoration of the compromised sockets after root fracture and peri-apical lesion development were detected during orthodontic treatment. Successful esthetic and functional outcomes and reestablishment of the alveolar process after bone reconstruction were observed during the 3-year follow-up period. The predictable esthetic outcomes and soft and hard tissue stability that can be achieved following IDR are demonstrated.

Guided Bone Regeneration of a Seibert Class III Bone Defect With Bioactive Calcium Phosphosilicate Bone Graft: Human Histology and Clinical Report
This clinical case aimed to achieve two main objectives. The first was to determine if the use of only calcium phosphosilicate bone graft as a regeneration material (with no autologous bone added) on a severe vertical and horizontal mandibular defect would allow enough bone to be obtained to enable the placement of dental implants. The second objective was to determine histologic characteristics of the regenerated site after a healing period of 10 months.
