In Part 1 of this series, Dr. Myron Nevins presents new and significant research on the role that the micro-geometry of the implant surface at the neck of the implant can play on maintaining soft tissue integrity and health. Dr. Nevins specifically outlines the properties and advantages of new Laser-Lok microchannels at the neck of the implant industry. In addition, he details the histologic comparison of soft tissue attachment between this new implant surface and a natural tooth surface.

It is just amazing how far you guys go, I am 24 from Spain and working in the uk and unfortunately when I talk about biological width most of my colleagues look at me as if I was crazy (I would not even dare to talk about the horizontal component; yes, I may have to change environment), being this a little bit frustrating. Dentalxp is just such a motivation and to see how much you care about evidence based dentistry is just inspirational. Thank you to share all this info with us, I am actually doing a PG certif in the UK and everything they say I know better from you. The best 250$ I have ever spent.

An incredible finding by Dr. Nevins and his team. Oblique connective tissue fiber insertion onto an implant surface is a tremendous benefit to long term tissue and bone stability. Human histological evidence of this oblique fiber attachment has never before been shown in the literature. The long term esthetic importance of such an occurrence is obvious. Laser microchannels may become the standard in the future of implant microgeometry. I continue to wait for similar literature regarding "platform switching" and biological width with other implant designs. If anyone is interested in reading the article it is posted on this site for pdf download.
Well worth it.

Introducing Choukroun’s Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) to the Reconstructive Surgery Milieu
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), developed in France by Choukroun et al (2001), is a second generation platelet concentrate widely used to accelerate soft and hard tissue healing. Its advantages over the better known platelet-rich plasma (PRP) include ease of preparation/application, minimal expense, and lack of biochemical modification (no bovine thrombin or anticoagulant is required). PRF is a strictly autologous fibrin matrix containing a large quantity of platelet and leukocyte cytokines. This article serves as an introduction to the PRF “concept” and its potential clinical applications.
