Deborah, I have gotten good success with microabrasion for many years but it depends on just how deep the hypocalcificion is. I tell the patient that some or all of the white stains will come out but the ones that do not will have to be bonded with composite resin. So the procedure will consist first of cosmetic contouring the enamel since some of the stain may well come out just with reshaping the enamel IF there is need to improve the shape of the teeth. If not then I proceed directly to microabrasion one to three visits. If there are still stained areas then I bond them with a microfilled composite.

Can you explain what kind of results you get with microabrasion? Do you place composite over the areas that have hypocalcification?

The Centripetal Build-Up for Composite Resin Posterior Restorations
This paper introduces a new technique for creating Class II posterior composite restorations - the centripetal build-up. This technique replaces the lost tooth structure from the periphery towards the center of the cavity, thereby achieving better marginal adaptation to the gingival floor. Since overfilling is rare, rotary finishing is minimized. This method allows the creation of long-term aesthetic posterior composite restorations, while utilizing conventional auxiliary (ie, metal matrix bands…
