Guided vs. Conventional Implant Surgery - A Restorative Perspective

Description:
In this lecture, Dr. Christopher Marchack describes the utilization of CT guided surgical planning software to optimize communication and design for the delivery of predictably successful implant therapy. Both surgical and restorative perspectives are outlined in great depth to facilitate esthetic as well as occlusal management. In addition, potential complications in the utilization of associated CAD/CAM guided implant placement are also discussed along with techniques to avoid or overcome them.

Great lecture thank you very much. One question you mentioned in your lecture that the full cases ended in 2008 and the partially edentulous cases in 2007. is there any reason for this. Do you find you are using this technique more and more or are you tending to use it less and less. thanks again

Danny O'Keefe - (3/25/2010 2:11 PM)

this is the 1st time I have heard that even guided surgery can be off more than 1/10's of a MM. Do you make special appointments to fit the surgical guide before the day of surgery ?

Very informative and understandable. Enjoyed listening to this presentation.

excellent and clear presentation.

Very good presentation... contains a lot, plenty of information for an inquisetive, consciencious and a "practical" clinician to understand, learn, execute and enjoy the pride and ultimate personal satisfaction. Such pride and personal satisfaction are achievable by reaching elevated rates of successful results. Availing advanced diagnostic means and execution of appropriate treatment modalities as presented in this video is a good example.

Immediate Implant Dentistry: A Predictable & Routine Treatment
The topic of one day implants (Teeth in a Day, Same Day Implants, etc.) is very popular in implant dentistry. This topic has existed since the introduction of implants into dentistry as the Clinician wishes to reduce chairside time, and the Patient wishes to have less visits to the dental clinician. Until now, there hasn’t been a good scientifically-supported way to provide One Day Implants. To make it a reality, many objective key factors have been discussed and developed in implant dentistry. Implant design was developed in order to achieve vital initial and long-term stability and surface treatments developed as well for secondary stability. In addition, various methods have been developed to determine implant stability which are very helpful to provide one day implants.

"The Socket Shield Technique"; Myths & Realities
Socket Shield Technique is a concept in implant dentistry that utilizes the partial extraction therapy principles, with the goal of preserving the hard and soft tissues around the dental implants. It has been reported to be a very predictable therapy so far. The proper case selection is crucial for the success of the technique. In fact, it is very technique sensitive and requires an advanced level in implant dentistry. Although the technique has a high overall success rate, but long term studies and high evidence level researches are needed to support the proof of principle available. This presentation will discuss and review the "myths & realities" of the new Socket Shield Technique or "PET" (Partial Extraction Therapy) concept.

Root Submergence Technique, A Case Series with Follow-Up up to Seven Years

Root Submergence Technique, A Case Series with Follow-Up up to Seven Years
In the era of aesthetic dentistry, the goal is not only to provide a function to our patients but also to preserve the hard and soft tissue anatomy, to have a pleasing prosthesis. Obtaining natural aesthetics is simpler in single implant cases, however, in multiple implant prosthesis achieving natural dentition becomes a challenge. The root submergence technique (RST) is one such procedure that provides maximum preservation of the surrounding alveolar bone and soft tissue. This case series discusses the effect of a root submergence technique on preserving the periodontal tissue at the pontic site of fixed dental prostheses in the maxillary arch. The results of this clinical case series indicate that a root submergence technique can be successfully applied in the pontic site development with fixed dental prostheses, especially in the maxillary anterior aesthetic zone.

Use of Stereolithographic Models as Diagnostic & Restorative Aids for Predictable Immediate Loading of Implants
Implant dentistry has evolved into one of the most predictable treatment alternatives in all of medical science. Advances in the surgical and prosthetic components, implant designs and surface technologies, and imaging techniques have allowed for significant modifications to occur with respect to one- and two-stage surgical protocols, accelerating treatment times to the benefit of patient and clinician. This article presents a technique to improve surgical and restorative accuracy, allowing for predictable placement and immediate loading of implants through use of CT imaging, stereolithographic models, and CT-derived surgical templates.
