New Classification of Peri-Implantitis & Diagnosis - Part 1 of 2
Description:
Peri-implantitis has been receiving attention following recent studies that showed that it is highly prevalent and difficult to manage. This course will provide the latest evidence-based information on peri-implant diseases with emphasis on a team/interdisciplinary approach to treatment. The program will present the updates on the definition and etiology of peri-implantitis from the American Academy of Periodontology’s 2018 consensus meeting. The instructor will present research findings on peri-implant disease diagnosis and management.

Patricio and Snjezana your comments are always spot on and so generous. Fully agree with probing and recognizing mucositis as EARLY as possible. I invite everyone to probe their implants routinely. It’s a reality check that helps realize that the 10-20% prevalence estimates for Peri-implantitis are unfortunately not off at all. Thanks for the feedback!

I loved the professional design and the flow of the presentation. This was like a first episode of a show “Meet your enemy”, and I can’t wait for another one. I loved several things: the most that you cleared out the importance of probing, an easy, but yet very much neglected step, you emphasised the dissimiliraty between periodontitis and perimplantitis (can’t wait for the paper to be published),that tiny custom nylon brush but big in its action...It is only that due to crown shape, we often can not probe properly...
Long story short: Recognise mucositis so you don’t meet periimplantitis.
(Dog’s barking🥰, better than the background music)
Thank you for this wonderful lecture, Georgios. And thanks to DentalXP for including this lecture in the webinars.

Partial Extraction Therapies: From Failure to Everyday Practice - Part 1 of 4
Tooth extraction is usually followed by the resorption of support tissues that may compromise the aesthetic and functional prognosis of the final rehabilitation. There have been numerous publications suggesting Partial Extraction Therapies contribute to the maintenance of the alveolar ridge dimensions. These techniques consist in intentionally preserving a buccal root fragment in order to avoid tearing the periodontal ligament and loosing the bundle bone, which leads to bone resorption. It has been reported that these are very sensitive techniques and may lead to some complications. In order to avoid these complications, the dental surgeon must know which cases can be treated with Partial Extraction Therapies and how to correctly perform them. In these presentations we will show what are the indications and contraindications, how to perform these techniques, the literature that sustains it, how can we benefit from digital technology to today's world, etc.

Controversies in Modern Implant Therapy; Lasers and Immediate Loading
The biological basis for clinical applications of Lasers and Immediate Loading will be discussed and and protocols for clinical applications will be demonstrated. Protocols for soft tissue management, treatment of peri-implantitis with lasers and the positive effects of the loading forces on the bone will be used in order to accelerate treatment in Implant dentistry.

Advanced Immediate Implant Placement Strategies Including the Socket Shield (SS) Technique and its Complications
Immediate implant placement in the aesthetic zone has become a controversial topic with regards to the long term aesthetic demands that both the profession and our patients have placed on this treatment modality. Since the controversy broke a few years ago there have been a number of outstanding developments that have revolutionized the way we do immediate implant placement. Soft tissue augmentations using the tunnel technique as well as the socket whiled technique are 2 of these techniques which form the baseline of treatment in our clinic. This lecture will go through all the updated protocols of immediate implant placement supported by the literature as well as deal specifically with the finer details of the socket whiled technique including step by step photos and video of the technique. More importantly it will cover numerous complications that we have had to deal with over the last few years that we have been doing this technique.

The Future of Lasers in Periodontal Therapy: Science, Hype or Snake Oil
The results of recent research studies suggest that lasers provide a viable alternative to traditional periodontal surgery. Evidence is emerging that lasers provide an enhanced method for achieving this elusive goal, while eliminating many of the negative sequale associated with conventional pocket elimination surgery.

Alveolar Ridge Preservation and Reconstruction
Periodontal plastic surgery procedures designed to reconstruct deformed, partially edentulous residual ridges were introduced to the dental profession between 1971 and 1986. They have been revised and refined to their current state of development, where they now occupy a major place in the reconstructive armamentarium. Before these concepts were developed, it was generally believed that it was impossible to surgically reconstruct deformities in the partially edentulous ridge. Deformities were filled…

Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Peri-Implant Disease
Although some risk factors of peri-implant disease are well defined, the lack of efficient and predictable approaches to treat peri-implantitis has created difficulty in the management of those complications. The aim of this review was the evaluate the reliability of the diagnosis methods and to provide a set of guidelines to treat peri-implant disease. A search of PubMed and a hand search of articles related to peri-implant diseases were conducted up to August 2013. A summary of the current methods for the diagnosis of peri-implantitis, its potential risk factors, and a flow chart to guide the clinical management of these conditions are presented.
