Questions & Comments
Sergio Rubinstein - (11/8/2009 9:47 PM)

There is no question avoiding the change of abutments could be of great benefit to the tissue response and preservation. The question I have is: How many surgeons truly know how the case will be restored?
Interdisciplinary approach from the onset will provide optimum results, thus I recommend the laboratory technicians involvement at the early stages of treatment!

Very Nice ! Congratulations !

Anyone who wants to see a thorough "real world" restorative presentation on dental implants will love this. It appears that ideal abutment selection and screw retained options may be gaining popularity and for good reason. My question would be should we try placing our permanent abutments the day of implant placement so as to avoid tearing of the gingival fibers during restorative phase? The concept of 1 abutment-1 time?? Or, when bone and tissue are good what about ONE-PIECE Implants? Maurice Salama

In this lecture, tips on how to deal with the different types of extraction socket, mostly infected, will be presented. The use of plasma rich in growth factors and the Endoret® (PRGF®) fibrin membrane is a key factor to enhance socket regeneration, post-operative recovery and minimize/treat complications.

Vertical or Shoulderless Preparations in Contemporary Prosthodontics Premium Member Content

Vertical or Shoulderless Preparations in Contemporary Prosthodontics
Tooth preparations without a defined finish line have been termed in several different ways, such as knife edge, feather edge, or shoulderless. From a biological standpoint, preserving a maximum amount of sound tooth structure, as it is done in vertical preparations, might also offer a more conservative alternative to a horizontal margin design in other clinical conditions such as endodontically treated teeth, vital teeth in young individual, teeth affected by caries at the cervical third. Vertical margins on zirconia crowns have been tested in vitro and clinical reports have been published. A re-evaluation of possible advantages and shortcomings of vertical preparation design in contemporary prosthodontics will be presented in light of recently published literature.

Soft Tissue Recession Around Implants

Soft Tissue Recession Around Implants
When treatment with dental implants is indicated, an accurate diagnosis must be made to evaluate the clinical parameters and determine the optimal time for immediate or delayed (ie, early or late) implant placement and loading following tooth extraction. It is also important to identify complications and their implications on the aesthetic outcome.1 This article explains behavior of the hard and soft tissue around the implant, evaluates the timing of implant placement after extraction, and reviews various parameters that influence tissue marginal remodeling.

Treatment Planning 2000: An Esthetically Oriented Revision of the Original Implant Protocol
The purpose of this article is to outline the blueprint for a comprehensive multidisciplinary treatment philosophy, designed for developing the foundation for optimal esthetics in implant therapy. In addition, the important synergistic relation of the osseous, gingival, and restorative triad in creating the esthetic profile is described. The need to enhance the individual components of this triad is emphasized as the basis for a revised implant protocol actualized for treating the complex partially…

Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Peri-Implant Disease

Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Peri-Implant Disease
Although some risk factors of peri-implant disease are well defined, the lack of efficient and predictable approaches to treat peri-implantitis has created difficulty in the management of those complications. The aim of this review was the evaluate the reliability of the diagnosis methods and to provide a set of guidelines to treat peri-implant disease. A search of PubMed and a hand search of articles related to peri-implant diseases were conducted up to August 2013. A summary of the current methods for the diagnosis of peri-implantitis, its potential risk factors, and a flow chart to guide the clinical management of these conditions are presented.
