The Importance of Facially Driven Smile Design in Modern Comprehensive Dentistry Premium Member Content

The Importance of Facially Driven Smile Design in Modern Comprehensive Dentistry
Modern dentistry is comprehensive, comprehensive dentistry is interdisciplinary, interdisciplinary dentistry is facially driven, Facially Driven dentistry starts with Smile Design. Facially Driven Natural looking Smile Design is the starting point of modern restorative dentistry and the key to improve diagnosis and decision making. The importance of understanding how to consistently create adequate smile designs in harmony with faces is underrated in dentistry and the notion that this topic is under control is overrated. We don’t know what we don’t know. The aim of this lecture is to highlight the challenges, evolution, and the important concepts to become a great smile designer and also how to use technology to streamline the process and deliver naturally beautiful healthy smiles consistently.

Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy: Decision Making in the 21st Century
Non-surgical periodontal therapy is a vital part of everyday dental practice. Since the majority of periodontal therapy is performed by general dentists and dental hygienists, it is critical that clinicians have all of the requisite skills and information needed to perform these services at the highest level possible. The purpose of this presentation is to provide the latest evidence- and practice- based information on periodontal debridement and adjunctive therapies that can improve patient outcomes. Though surgical procedures may still need to be performed in some sites, the majority of inflammatory periodontal disease can be eliminated or reduced significantly using the techniques and protocols discussed in this educational segment on non-surgical periodontal therapy.

“The Full Arch Patient”; A Fully Digital Affair Premium Member Content

“The Full Arch Patient”; A Fully Digital Affair
Guided Surgery (GS) is a concept where you are guided by the rehabilitation needs of your patient to perform the implant surgery procedure based on all the info that we process via planning software that are loaded with digital files coming from intra-oral scanning (IOS) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). After planning the case, we print a surgical guide or stent to perform the surgery, this technique allows us to do it flap or flapless in a complete secure environment, quicker and more precise if we compare to "freehand" surgery. However, we have to be careful because not all the systems are the same; those who use scoops as reductors are less precise than the "scoopless", no matter which system we use we have to be clear to understand that all the classic concepts of osseointegration are not erased by guided surgery, especially bone physiology.

A Biometric Approach To Aesthetic Crown Lengthening: Part 1 - Midfacial Considerations
Although human dental anatomy is taught in university curricula, clinicians often witness restorations that are not proportional to one another. Dental restorations should also be proportional to periodontal supporting tissues as an essential aspect of dental anatomy. Measurements can be performed directly on a patient’s teeth with aesthetic gauges used to confirm the correct position of the supporting osseous topography. This article demonstrates a technique using these gauges to objectively determine the correct position of the underlying hard tissues and render predictable, aesthetic treatment.

Surgical Crown Lengthening in a Population With Human Immunodeficiency Virus: A Retrospective Analysis

Surgical Crown Lengthening in a Population With Human Immunodeficiency Virus: A Retrospective Analysis
This report investigates the outcome of CLS procedures performed at an urban dental school in a population of individuals with HIV. Specifically, this retrospective clinical analysis evaluates the healing response after crown lengthening surgery (CLS). Of the 21 patients with HIV examined after CLS, none had postoperative complications, such as delayed healing, infection, or prolonged bleeding. Variations in viral load, CD4 cell count, smoking, platelets, and neutrophils did not impact surgical healing. In addition, variations in medication regimens (highly active anti-retroviral therapy; on pro-tease inhibitors; no medications had an impact. The results of this retrospective analysis show the absence of postoperative complications after CLS in this population with HIV. Additional investigation into this area will help health care practitioners increase the range of surgical services provided to this group of patients.

Adhesive Dentistry - A Full Time Practitioner’s Perspective

Adhesive Dentistry - A Full Time Practitioner’s Perspective
Adhesive dentistry has provided techniques and materials for conservative and esthetic options in every restorative practice. The understanding of the process of etching to form microscopic undercuts and infiltrating these gaps with resin to create an adhesive interface between tooth and restorative material has demonstrated long-term durable and well-sealed interfaces, resulting in excellent clinical results.
