Questions & Comments
satish reddy - (7/25/2017 12:25 PM)

Thank you Dr Salama.

Maurice Salama - (7/24/2017 9:06 PM)

Satish; Good question. Typically one tooth sites get an XS and 2-3 teeth small. There has been little research that desribes exactly the concentrations of BMP-2 to utilize. regards Dr. Salama

satish reddy - (7/24/2017 8:43 PM)

Dr Salama, how do you calculate how much BMP-2 to use? for example how much do we need per implant site? How do you decide? Thanks

Maurice Salama - (7/16/2014 9:09 AM)

Ed; Thanks. You are correct here. I used a thicker ti-mesh and did not secure apical end but today I would for sure with either a bone tack or fixation screw through the vent holes. Nothing is as easy as it looks. regards Dr. Salama

edward shapiro - (7/15/2014 10:38 PM)

no need to secure the mesh at apical end? how much infuse was used for this case. why no collagen membrane over mesh? you make it look so easy!

Maurice Salama - (2/19/2014 7:21 AM)

Beth; Yes, I have used BMP-2 with Sonic Weld and suggest the micro perforated PLLA membranes. Dr. Salama

Beth Tomlin - (2/19/2014 5:59 AM)

Dr. Salama, Have you ever used the Sonic Weld with the INFUSE?

Maurice Salama - (5/21/2013 9:58 AM)

Nelson: I can only speak of my experiences with BMP-2 and I have no adverse reactions that you are suggesting other than significant post-op edema. regards Dr. Salama

Nelson Macedo - (5/20/2013 9:30 PM)

What do you think about Infuse adverse effects as bone ovegrowth, sterility, ectopic bone growth?...

Titanium Mesh and rhBMP-2 in Ridge Augmentation: Options and Limitations Premium Member Content

Titanium Mesh and rhBMP-2 in Ridge Augmentation: Options and Limitations
Titanium mesh has been used in reconstructive surgery and ridge augmentation for several years. The traditional technique involves using cancellous autogenous bone under the mesh scaffold. More recently growth factors and bone substitutes have been utilized as autograft replacements. There are several advantages to using titanium mesh for space maintenance including strength, ease of use, low cost and biocompatibility. However, the difficulty in removing the mesh has led to a search for other space maintenance scaffolds including tenting screws, dense preshaped collagen and porous high-density polyethylene. This webinar will discuss the use of rhBMP-2 for managing horizontal and vertical bone deficiencies with various scaffolds.

Bone Augmentation & Vascular Enhancement Concepts: It’s Time to Make it Simple!
The purpose of this presentation is to make the participant think biology first and not mechanic first. A biological thinking will dramatically simplify vertical and/or horizontal bone augmentation procedures. We will also be introducing a new approach for the simplification of soft tissue handling: the Soft Brushing Technique, that will allow the coronal advancement of both buccal and lingual flaps, but also the palatal flap without the need for periosteal releasing incisions.

Retrospective Evaluation of Crestal Bone Changes Around Implants With Reduced Abutment Diameter Placed Non-Submerged and at Subcrestal Positions: The Effect of Bone Grafting at Implant Placement
One method to measure the success of dental implant treatment is to evaluate marginal peri-implant bone-level changes and stability over time. The location of the fixture–abutment interface (FAI) can be of major importance when the goal is to construct esthetic restorations. In these situations the FAI is often placed in a more apical position to create an ideal emergence profile for the prosthetic construction. However, several animal studies have reported that placement of the FAI in a subcrestal position may result in peri-implant marginal bone loss. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of bone grafting of the defect between the bone crest and the coronal aspect of the implant for implants with reduced abutment diameters placed non-submerged and in subcrestal positions.
