Socket Preservation vs Root Submergence Technique

Description:
Socket preservation has been a common technique used in dentistry in order to maintain the volume ridge when the extraction is performed. New techniques and materials are used today in order to improve the outcomes like root submergence technique developed by Dr Maurice Salama and his team, where we submerge the root keeping intact the PDL and bundle bone responsible for maintaining the original bone architecture. Here both techniques are compared and described.

Questions & Comments
Ilya Kvartin - (7/22/2020 11:09 AM)

Very nice presentation! I am wondering, would you ever consider performing prophylactic endo on the retained roots?

Fabio Manuel Filannino - (5/15/2020 6:06 PM)

Loved the presentation and the topics you talked about. Very smart consideration about the over trimming the root on the RST sites. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

henry salama - (5/15/2020 4:22 PM)

My compliments. You asked very relevant clinical questions and your excellent clinical skills and documentation help to inform our community as to the biological consequences of these different clinical choices and techniques. Thank you.

Very good

Thanks for sharing!! One question, could You do a Root Submerged on an Implant Overdenture?

UDATTA KHER - (9/3/2017 10:02 AM)

Great case presentation and work flow.

Nicolas Aronna - (9/3/2017 2:28 AM)

Thank you all for the nice comments and great questions. Dear colleagues, Dr Maurice Salama is the expert and first researcher on this technique and his approach is the most accurate and scientifically driven. While submerging the root ensures biological environment and no need for grafting it may develop a mild vertical defect, this is why is important to manage very well the root reduction. Thick Biotypes allow only 1-2mm of root reduction since a thick CT and epithelium is present, while thin biotypes may need more reduction due to lack of soft tissue thickness.

Excellent presentation! I was involved in discussions about necessity of submerged root covering. Although theoretically blood clot appeared as enough, I didn`t dare to relay only on blood clot. Thank you for sharing, very much enjoyed and appreciated!

thank you for your presentation ,kindly i want ask about how to make sure that you didn't affect the pulp during the reduction ?

What is the Role of Blood and its Proteins in Regenerative Therapy? Bioengineering and Technological Applications
In the blood stream, we have plasmatic proteins and proteins that are released upon platelet activation. These proteins, at certain concentration, play an important function in orchestrating complex events that occur to achieve tissue regeneration like chemiotaxis, angiogenesis, cellular proliferation and differentiation. The optimized use of these bioactive clues would offer several advantages and applications in surgery.

Venipuncture & Blood Drawing: Phlebotomy Step-by-Step
The use of platelets concentrates is becoming unavoidable in our surgeries. To take full advantage of these techniques, the surgeon has to be familiar with the blood collection technique and capable to draw blood at any time. This presentation will show you how to manage simply the venipuncture according to a step by step protocol, with special attention for tricky situations & difficult patients.

The Role of Digital Technologies & Materials for Full-Arch Implant Reconstruction Premium Member Content

The Role of Digital Technologies & Materials for Full-Arch Implant Reconstruction
In prosthetic rehabilitations, we used for many years codified and widely described protocols in literature, with results that met our expectations and well above those of our patients. It is true that the advent of new technologies has enabled the dental team to use new material and new equipment that facilitated the production of an adaptation and an accuracy of the prosthetic rehabilitation that has, up to now, been difficult to obtain. In this presentation, we will analyze different cases, highlighting the operational differences that they have developed over time, with the increasing knowledge of the new materials and the daily developing of the new software's. It is also described how traditional materials and techniques have been replaced with other innovative new technologies, and how the results obtained with these are systematic and significantly better in updated generations prior.

Piezosurgery on Impacted Teeth Premium Member Content

Piezosurgery on Impacted Teeth
In the latest years, Oral surgery has strongly suffered of the technological innovations introduced in this field. In particular, the use of ultrasound applied to surgery has changed some of the most frequent clinical procedures, such as the extraction of third parties molars included, thus spreading an innovative concept in all dentistry: piezoelectric surgery or piezosurgery. So taking care of about 10 years of simple and complex extractive surgery I had the need to elaborate a lecture in which they are described in a simple and linear way the surgical techniques for the avulsion of the dental elements included, to provide a repeatable and predictable approach and method in order to reduce their invasiveness and traumaticity procedures

Preserving Needle Edges During Dental Suturing
The evolution of suture materials has presented today's clinician with numerous alternatives when performing dental suturing. Contemporary sutures not only eliminate some of the difficulties that the surgeon may have encountered previously during closure, but also decrease the potential of postoperative infection and help provide optimal healing. Despite the sophistication of the suture materials (ie, Perma Sharp, Hu-Friedy, Chicago, IL) and surgical techniques now available, closing a wound still involves…
